Strengthening the capacity of the National Assembly of Armenia to further support CEPA oversight and implementation

EU – ARMENIA RELATIONS

The European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) is chiefly a bilateral policy between the EU and each partner country and governs the EU’s relations with 16 of its eastern and southern neighbours. The European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI) is the main financial instrument for implementing the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) and provides the bulk of EU funding to the 16 ENP partner countries. The Eastern Partnership (EaP) is a specific regional dimension of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), supporting sustainable reform processes, close political association and economic integration with the EU with the commitment of delivering tangible results for citizens. The four main priority areas of the Eastern Partnership are:

  • Stronger Economy (economic development and market opportunities);
  • Stronger Governance (strengthening institutions and good governance);
  • Stronger Connectivity (connectivity, energy efficiency, environment and climate change);
  • Stronger Society (mobility and people-to-people contacts).

Armenia is a Beneficiary of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) and ENI East Partner Country since 2004 and of the Eastern Partnership since 2009.

In order to promote close and intensive cooperation based on equal partnership within the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) and the Eastern Partnership (EaP), the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community and their Member States, from one part, and the Republic of Armenia, from the other part, signed a Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) on 24 November 2017. CEPA entered into force on 1 March 2021, according to ratification procedures of all parties, including all EU Member States.
